I thought it would be fun to share with you a behind-the-scenes look at the selection of cover ideas we had to choose from when picking our magazine’s new design. As you know, K9 Design Co. in Toronto sponsored our magazine makeover after we won their national magazine-redesign contest this past spring. The following shots were [...] More »

Behind-the-scenes photos of our recent cover shoot in Halifax.
This is the home of Andrew and Kathy Watts and their three kids in the Fleming Heights neighbourhood of Halifax. We feature their newly renovated, side-split style home in the upcoming Winter Issue of the magazine, which hits newsstands on November 27.
We held this shoot just before Thanksgiving weekend. It had been a rainy, nasty morning but thankfully the weather cleared up by noon, just as things were getting underway. James Ingram of Jive Photographic took the photos. Here’s a shot of him in action. The painting in the background is by Halifax artist, Dan Peck.

We had the Watts and their kids participate in many of the photos, showing them going about their daily routines in the house, including this breakfast scene. That’s dad Andrew serving up a pancake to daughter Grace. We’re pretty sure a variation of this shot will be the cover image of the new magazine.

Here’s a shot of Rayleen Hill, the architect for the renovation. She came up with the cool design of the home’s new entryway.

Here’s a shot of Ray Frizzell, owner of Statement, a boutique furniture and design store in Halifax. Ray helped the Watts select a number of pieces in their revamped space. He also helped stage the home for the shoot (thanks, Ray!).

I love this chair and set of round nesting tables he picked out for the main living space.

Watch for more sneak-peek photos in the coming weeks. In the meantime, you can check out my previous blog post for some dramatic before and after shots of the home.
