Dine By Design East update

We update Dine By Design East, the fabulous design and culinary event we're planning for October.

Creativity, collaboration, and chic designs

We held our first meeting of designers and chefs this week at the Olympic Community Centre in Halifax. This is the space we’ll be transforming this October for Dine By Design East. The 10 designers will be each transforming a blank 10’ by 10’ space into an extraordinary dining room. A top chef will be matched with each designer and will create a special menu inspired by the dining room design, with a fabulous Gala night on Thursday October 3 celebrating the food and the designs.

It was great to see everything coming together! From left is Shay Ingram and Mark Martin of MHome chatting with Suzanne Saul, co-owner of Attica Furnishings, and Jonathan Legate.

I loved hearing snippets of conversation between the designers and chefs. I overheard chef Brad Wammes of Kitchen Door Catering and Bruce Norman of Norman Flynn Design talking about designing a sleek masculine space; they hinted at featuring bison on the menu (with possibly even a bison head as part of the décor). I would LOVE to see that!

Jonathan drew some wonderful floor plans and mock ups of the gala night. You won’t recognize the Olympic centre once things get underway!

That’s Suzanne looking over the plans with Jonathan. This whole event is the brainchild of these two creative thinkers.

Stay tuned for more updates on the event. We should be finalizing info about ticket sales soon and will also be putting out a call for volunteers. In the meantime, I thought it would be fun to post a few tablescapes from the Chicago Dining By Design event held last year. These two really tablescapes caught my attention:

I love the colours and the playful use of pillows in this one.

What a great tablescape for fall. The creative use of wood is very chic.

  1. I’m so excited about this event! I would love to volunteer to help out!

  2. Janice Hudson

that’s great to hear! We will be posting info soon about volunteering

  3. That was such a productive meeting! So excited to be working with all of these creative people!
Thanks Vanessa! They’ll be lots of ways that people can help.
