Christopher Joyce and Suzanne Saul, co-owners of Attica in Halifax, have been design collaborators for over 20 years. With Bachelor of Fine Art degrees from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design, the duo brings a contemporary, clean-lined sophistication to their decorative work.

An award-winning product designer, Chris creates one-of-a-kind and limited-edition pieces. He has designed rugs for Hellenic Canada, including some unique rug maps of fashion centres around the world, including Milan and Paris.  Here’s an excerpt from an interview I had with Chris a few year’s back.

For their Dine By Design East display, Suzanne and Chris are drawing inspiration from the mid-century period. “We’ve always loved small, open spaces where the focus is on truth in materials, modernism and bringing the outdoors in, as characterized by the [this] period,” they say.

Chris is working on his largest paintings ever for their dining room display. Here’s a shot of him at work on one of the pieces. I remember seeing some of his paintings on display at Attica, so I can’t wait to see his final artwork!

Attica is partnered with Jane’s Catering and Events, the latest culinary venture of restaurateur Jane Wright and chef Paolo Colbertaldo. Jane and Paolo have worked and collaborated together for more than eight years, serving up fresh, honest food with warm hospitality at the popular North End neighbourhood restaurant, Jane’s on the Common. I really miss this restaurant–the weekend brunch was amazing and worth waiting outside in the rain for!

Today, Jane and Paolo jointly manage Jane’s Next Door, a retail take-away food shop, a line of frozen food entrées, and a catering business. We’re excited to have them taking part in Dine By Design East—I can’t wait to see what recipes they come up with for the Gala.
