Sweet Valentine’s Day décor

A round up of fun Valentine’s Day décor ideas to sweeten up your home

By |

On this dreary, drippy Valentine’s Day, I thought it would be fun to present a few Valentine’s Day décor items.

Giving something handmade on Valentine’s Day is always sweet. These fun hand-stencilled pillows are by Tanya Owen, who runs Kentville, N.S.-based Girliture, Painted Fabrics and Furniture. Tanya makes a lot of custom designs for anniversary dates and weddings. I love the ones below that feature the handwritten notes—so beautiful. Check out her Facebook page for more unique designs.

This is a Heart shape box by Prince Edward Island-based furniture makers Birdmouse. Co-owners Lenny and Heather Gallant handcraft their pieces from recycled and reclaimed materials. The box uses wood from an old sewing box, so inside there are three little compartments (or ventricles).  Also by Birdmouse, I love this necklace made from various reclaimed woods with a hempseed-oil finish—so chic.

Up next is the Ligne Roset loveseat we featured on our Fall 2013 cover. That’s lovebirds Chas and Jennifer Mackay relaxing on it in the master bedroom of their fabulous modern home (designed by Acre Architects in Saint John, N.B.) on New Brunswick’s Kingston Peninsula (check out the story here). Looks so cozy! The painting is by artist Alexandra Flood. Photo by Sean McGrath. See more photos from our shoot with Sean.

I also had to put up a shot of the new Halifax chair from Gus Modern. Love the name and what a lovely bright colour (it also comes in black but I really love the red). It’s a contemporary accent chair with a laid-back, industrial feel. Are you buying anything special for yourself or your beau today?
