The seaside was the launching pad for Denise Hermanson’s elegant space that featured pearlescent floors, rustic textures and a captivating full-wall photograph of a beach. “I have an affinity to the ocean and I feel most at home when I’m near the water,” says Hermanson, owner of DH Design Inc in Halifax.

Resembling a large piece of driftwood, the Wicker Emporium dining table anchored the décor. On one wall was a large round mirror by Attica. “It’s rustic and gives you that porthole feeling,” says Hermanson.

On the other wall, seashells and starbursts, reminiscent of sea urchins, continued the seaside theme. Overhead, a chandelier from Living Lighting, with a handpainted dome interior, called to mind the intricacy of a jellyfish drifting in the sea. Mother of Pearl chef match was Tahir Salamat of Onyx in Halifax.
