ECL-Fall-2013-for-webAward update: I’m thrilled to report that we won the bronze medal for our Fall 2013 cover at the recent Canadian Cover Awards in Toronto. Two of our covers were short listed in the Small Magazines category–our winning Fall 2013 cover and our Spring 2014 cover (read more on each finalist here).

Kudos to Saint John-based photographer Sean McGrath who shot both covers (as well as the cover of our upcoming spring issue—stay tuned for its unveiling in the coming days); we love showcasing Sean’s work in the magazine. And it’s great seeing that our Atlantic Canadian magazine can compete with the best of them on the national stage.

Here are a few sneak peeks of our new spring issue, which will be hitting Atlantic Canadian newsstands the week of March 16; we’ve just sent the files to the printer today and it’s looking fantastic.

I’m really excited about this stylish home in St. John’s, Newfoundland we’re featuring, with the story by Denise Flint and the photos by Kenneth J. Harvey. This photo by Kenneth shows homeowners Becki Peckham and Chris Nicholas in their chic living room. Doing the work themselves, the couple transformed their dated bungalow into a sleek modern space. Can’t wait to show off more of Kenneth’s artful images of this home in the magazine.

Here’s a taste of the contemporary home in St. Andrew’s, N.B. we’re also featuring in our new issue. Designed by Acre Architects, the bright open-concept space has huge windows with incredible views of the park it borders. This photo shows homeowner Chris Pascoe relaxing in the living room. It’s so nice seeing that green grass!

In her first East Coast Living story, writer Laura Oakley explores how bartenders are creating flavourful cocktails from local ingredients, including foraged plants. At Chinched Bistro in St. John’s, N.L., bartender Tim Corbett makes syrups and bitters from scratch, and infuses vodka with fruit. Watch for one of Tim’s innovative recipes in the magazine.
