Presented by East Coast Living magazine, “Dine By Design East” is a full-bodied, four-day feast for the senses showcasing design leaders and culinary giants from Canada’s East Coast. The third-annual showcase takes place October 1st to 4th, 2015 in a transformed Olympic Community Centre in Halifax (you won’t recognize the place!).
Funds raised support design education at NSCAD University through the Amber Harkins Memorial Scholarship Fund. Amber was a former editor of East Coast Living who passed away from cancer in 2012 at age 40. In its first two years, the event has raised over $40,000 in proceeds for design education. Two full tuition scholarships to NSCAD design students have been awarded so far.
Four days of spectacular events revolve around the 10 dining rooms each created within a 10’ by 10’ plywood box. Ten local chefs create unique menus inspired by each space. Celebrate their fabulous creations at our Gala evening on Thursday, October 1, where you can mingle with the designers and chefs discussing their creations and sampling the food. There will also be live and silent auctions, pop-up galleries with artwork available for purchase, a custom champagne bar, plus sampling of wine, beer and liquor from our region’s top suppliers.
Besides the gala evening, other Dine by Design East events include the lunchtime fashion show on Friday, October 2, 12 noon to 2 p.m. and public viewings on Saturday, October 3, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, October 4, 12 noon to 5 p.m. Enjoy the chance to view the dining rooms at your leisure. We’ve also got a full slate of weekend seminars on October 3 and 4 (included with admission), including return visits by interior designer Meredith Heron and chef Luis Clavel.
