Timeless colour
Katrina Giles of Seaside Interiors says the dipping temperatures and rich colours of the autumn season inspired her fireplace design. She likes to warm up her mantel space by using autumn colours such as orange and rust. The large clock from HomeSense symbolizes the “falling back” of time during the season. She completes her seasonal display with a real pumpkin and a pair of lanterns.

Bold and fearless
Colour (and lots of it) inspired Charli Junker’s mantel design. She shows off her love of colour with three bold vases she found at Winners, matching them with a Buddha and candlesticks from her own home. The owner of Your Space Our Design loves the versatility a mantelpiece offers. Dressing it up or down for seasons or trends, she says, is a quick and easy way to change the look of a space.

Cool and cozy
Sara Kirby wanted to capture the coziness of fall without being too literal in her interpretation of the season. She says autumn’s cooler temperatures and relaxed feel make her want to curl up with a good book. So will her laid-back design with its large mirror from Pier 1, wood frames from Chapters and sheepskin rug from the Rug Room in St. John’s. Topping it off are vintage Canadian postcards Kirby found at an estate sale, mercury glass vases and a fun metal stool and occasional table.

Corner creation
Deanne Dawe of Tidy Solutions picked a corner fireplace, which can be tricky to decorate. She added a mirror in the centre of the design to square off the corner. The letter “A” painted on the mirror is the initial of her client’s last name, which keeps the look personal while narrowing the reflection. The fresh flowers are from Paradise Flowers in Paradise, Newfoundland. A mantelpiece, Dawe says, is a great focal point in a room and serves as a perfect display area for personal treasures.
