Tonight is the Dine By Design East gala–the culmination of months of preparation by our design teams, chefs and volunteers. Since Monday, the Olympic Community Centre has been a flurry of activity as the 10 design teams have built their unique dining rooms inside blank plywood spaces. Volunteer builders and decorators have also been onsite transforming the Olympic Community Centre into a chic warehouse, affixing wood pallets to the walls and hanging handmade globes from the ceiling.

Tickets are still available for what promises to be an incredible evening of design, food, wine and artwork.  I stopped by the venue last night and was blown away by the creativity of the booths. For example, I saw a wall of toast emblazoned with an image of Miley Cyrus–quite a sight to behold! Another booth is made entirely out of veggies, fruit and meat. Heather Waugh Pitts has designed a fantastic bubble bar with custom artwork, furniture and cool lighting.

The Gala begins at 6 p.m. for VIP ticket holders–general admission starts at 7 p.m. Enjoy a special “cocktail by design” upon arrival, a red-carpet photo op at the door, and mingle with the designers and chefs discussing their creations and sampling the food. Food service goes from about 7 p.m. until 10 p.m. The Olympic Community Centre will be completely transformed for the event.

Upstairs, there will be a silent auction, pop-up galleries from some of Halifax’s finest galleries will have artwork available for purchase, as well as sampling of wine, beer and liquor from some of our region’s top suppliers. Participating galleries include: Studio 21 Fine Art, Secord Gallery, Parentheses GallerySwoon Fine Art, and Teichert Gallery, plus artwork by NSCAD University student Cat Blanchet. The Middle Spoon is running the bar at the event. As the night unfolds, the event will take on a fun party vibe, with a DJ providing music.

Hope to see you there!
