Our new cover showcases a spectacular open-concept bachelor pad in St. Andrews, New Brunswick. In this shot, you see homeowner Chris Pascoe (and his adorable pug Diva) relaxing in the breakfast nook. (Photography by Sean McGrath, design by Gwen North, art direction by Janice Hudson).
Designed by Acre Architects in Saint John, the home is a sleek, open-concept space that adjoins Chris’s daughter’s more traditional home. I love seeing how well a modern home can work alongside a conventional, older home. Check out the story by Angela Kippers for more on this.
Knowing modern design is not everyone’s cup of tea, we felt it was key to have a cover shot that would show the homeowner and his pet in the space. We find that seeing who actually lives in the home on our cover helps warm up a space, especially for more modern spaces. I love that you also see some of the artwork in the home—Chris is a fan of Polish Canadian artist Zbigniew Kupczynski (that’s his colourful abstract painting on the back wall; I’m in love with this painting).
Later this week, I’ll be releasing the other image we debated using for the cover (it’s pretty much the complete opposite of this image—an exterior shot of the building) and you can see for yourself which cover image you would have picked.
Subscribers in Atlantic Canada should be receiving their copies of the new magazine in the mail this week. Magazine are also available at local bookstores, Shoppers Drug Mart, Lawton’s and Superstores. To ensure you receive a copy of the magazine, please consider becoming a subscriber.
In the meantime, let me know what you think of the new cover!
