Mi’kmaq Mama Luskini’kin (Bannock)

From coast to coast, virtually every indigenous nation has a bannock recipe.

  • 8 cups (1 kg) flour
  • ¼ cup (60 ml) sugar
  • ¼ cup (60 ml) baking powder
  • 2 Tbsp (30 ml) oil
  • 4 cups (1 L) water (or half water, half milk)


  1. Heat oven to 350°F (177°C).
  2. Combine dry ingredients and oil in large mixing bowl.
  3. Gradually add water and/or milk. Mix by hand until a smooth dough forms.
  4. Spread dough on a greased baking sheet.
  5. Bake until golden brown.
