Designed by Success College interior-decorating students Megan Campbell, Miranda Brewster, and Ashley Elliott, the custom champagne bar at Dine By Design East 2015 gave discarded furniture dazzling new purpose. “We wanted to create a glamorous space where people could come and hang out,” says Campbell.

The students got the chairs for free on Kijiji, or found them on the side of the road. “We looked for pieces with good bones,” Campbell says. “The wing chair had been on the side of the road for a couple of days. As we were taking it away, a lady yelled out the window, ‘I’m so glad you’re taking my chair,’” recalls Campbell. They stripped and reupholstered each piece, and made 3-D wall art from the furniture coils.

The bold palette, the playful décor, and the tent-like material on the walls and ceiling gave the space a sleek circus look. The bar tables were upside down planters with pine board tops. A chic chandelier from Living Lighting at Station 12 completed the space. The team will be donating the furniture to a youth centre.
